Digital Scrapbooking Tips for the Beginner

If you've never tried digital scrapbooking, welcome to the club! There are many talented, dedicated scrapbookers who have never thought of taking their skills to a more technical place. If you're considering making the leap to computers, it's probably not as hard as you think. In fact, with a few helpful tips, you'll have no problems at all.

Digital scrapbooking tips

Before you start coming up with scrapbooking ideas, make sure you follow these easy tips.

1. Make sure you have a digital camera (most of us do) and that you know how to upload your photos. This sounds painfully obvious, but it's still worth mentioning!

2. Make sure you have some kind of software for editing images and creating scrapbook pages. The best program for this is Adobe PhotoShop, but it's quite expensive. If you do a lot of scrapbooking, it may be worth it. However, there are quite a few great programs you can get for cheaper or even free.

Don't try to use Paint, the so-called art program that comes with your computer: it will only lead to frustration. Instead, search for photo editing freeware such as Gimp and use that for your digital scrapbooking.

3. Spend lots of time getting to know your program. If you're unfamiliar with PhotoShop and you try to create your first scrapbook page with it, you're going to get frustrated fast. Seek out some tutorials, play around, and, if all else fails, read the manual.

4. Start a list of digital scrapbook freebies. One of the best things about digital scrapbooking is that you don't have to pay for most of your scrapbooking goodies (well, that and the fact that you can store them all on your computer instead of in huge boxes around the house!).

There are many websites offering digital scrapbook freebies, so do a search to find the ones that you love, the ones that appeal to your sense of style and fit in with your scrapbooking ideas. Then BOOKMARK those sites! Better still, download what you want. Don't assume you'll remember the web address -- you won't.

5. Make the word SAVE your mantra. I will never forget the day I was in the middle of a project, making the most beautiful scrapbook page I'd ever created. I was so pleased with how it was going, and I was really into the project, so I hadn't thought to save even once...

You guessed it. I still don't know how it happened, but the system crashed and I lost every single bit of my hard work. I was too depressed to recreate the scrapbook page. Don't let this happen to you.

Doing your scrapbooking on the computer is not difficult, and it saves a lot of time and money. Keep these tips in mind as you begin your journey in digital scrapbooking!
